Caring for your Royale Blue kitten

British Shorthair kittens care

When you bring your Blu Brits kitten home make sure they are in a safe environment with doors and widows closed as they will be frightened.

Make a warm spot for them to snuggle up in. Provide some toys.  Introduce them to other pets one at a time and supervise them well until they are acquainted.

Grooming

Your kitten will not need much grooming as it has a shortcoat but a comb & brush weekly will rid excess fur. Your kitten will shed hair on the change of seasons and may require extra brushing at this time.

Feeding

A British Blue cat weighing  4 - 8 kg *** needs an average of 300 cal per day (70 gr of dry food) to stay fit and healthy.

Tapeworms

Please ensure your kitten is treated for Tapeworm

Hair balls

Good grooming will lessen the instances of hairballs.

Fleas

Ensure correct flea treatment especially during the summer months

British cat care

Good care of teeth and ears is important.  Consult your vet about the correct care regime. Keep a litter tray in the same place. Solid matter and wet lumps should be removed from the tray frequently and the litter renewed when necessary.  British cats are very fussy and will not use a dirty tray so ensure it is kept clean and sanitised.

Ensure toys are safe for animals and eliminate the risk of your kitten swallowing foreign objects.

Lifespan & Health

British cats can live up to 20 years.  One health issue of the British Blue is heart disease. Regular checks with your veterinarian is the best measure to keep abreast of your cat's health.
